Under the Hood

Fall brought a delightfully cool relief from the summer heat. We even had snow up at Cedar Hills School. (see picture below). All the snow birds are back and we have signed up many new customers. The snow birds from last year bring in their friends who get cards and say that it is wonderful to have a bookmobile. I enjoy meeting the new people and trying to fill their reading requirements. We have also been getting myriad requests for e-books, especially from readers who got Kindles and the like for Christmas presents. They all seem so excited about the new way to download and read books.

Attendance is down right now due to schools closing for the holidays and attendance is up in the spots with the snow birds, especially in Yucca and Beaver Dam/Littlefield. I would like to encourage all our customers to bring in their friends to sign up for their own cards and enjoy our services.

In October I had the opportunity to give a presentation at the Mohave Library Alliance Conference on the Big Kahuna Bookmobile and what we do and where we go. My partner on the Angiemobile also presented on her bookmobile. We had great fun putting it together and presenting the final product. I also created a scrapbook on the doings and happenings on the Big Kahuna which I keep on hand in the office.

In September and then again in October, I attended the Friends of the Library meetings in Colorado City. They presented their plans for a Halloween fund raiser and expressed their continuing desire for a permanent library. They continue to work towards that end and we support their efforts.
